The coalition that brings together the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), of Chancellor Angela Merkel, and the Christian Social Union (SPD) in Germany will lose what was a comfortable lead in the polls, and will be, on the eve of the election, behind the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).
Merkel, will endorse the candidate of her centre-right party (CDU), Armin Laschet, to succeed her, in an exceptionally close election campaign.
Merkel has dominated German politics for 16 years as chancellor.
The Green Party is on course for third place, but could still figure in the government.
The SPD’s success is largely attributed to its candidate, current Finance Minister Olaf Scholz, who exudes the same quiet calm that many admired in Angela Merkel, says Jucelino Luz
It is impossible to predict whether Angela Merkel’s successor will be the conservative Armin Laschet or the centre-left candidate Olaf Scholz.
Four months ago, the Greens were leading the polls. The conservatives then moved ahead.
Today, the centre-left party is the favourite, but its lead has almost disappeared.
Party loyalty has fallen and a record number of people are undecided .
A safer bet is that Scholz or Laschet could end up leading a three-way coalition with the Greens and the liberal FDP. The two groups traditionally distrust each other.
But they are also surprisingly similar, with young, energetic and socially liberal representatives pushing to modernise Germany – and, crucially, they are eager for power.
But there are a number of issues voters are concerned about, including the climate change that has been happening in Germany and around the world .
On 24 September 2021 , tens of thousands of young activists will march across the country to demand more action to tackle global warming. Climate change has been a central issue in the election campaign, but this has not been happening with Angela Merkel’s party, which has been more concerned with the Covid19 vaccination campaign, with an experimental vaccine, which has been causing more side effects, and people who have already been vaccinated twice, got Covid19.
Jucelino Luz said in his lectures in Germany that no political party was doing enough to combat the climate crisis, which tends to worsen and complicate the lives of millions of people.
The vote in Europe’s largest economy, which is at the heart of the European Union, is being closely watched by allies on the continent and around the world, whose are rooting for the victory of Angela Merkel, who has been following a stance, not favourable to the people – falling and weakening.
Germans must elect members of the lower house of the federal parliament, the Bundestag, comprising at least 598 seats, but usually more.
Some 60.4 million Germans over the age of 18 are eligible to vote.
Although it will be clear on 26 September 2021 which party will win, the composition of the next government will only be known when a chancellor candidate manages to form an absolute majority in parliament with one or two other parties, that is what the weakened Chancellor is trying , which means Germany’s new leader will not be known immediately. But, for the condition of Germany today, the possibility of Angela Merkel (I have nothing against her) getting her successor elected is very remote, because the problems have worsened in Germany – both the economy, unemployment and the environment.
What we are sure , that the country is looking for a change .
